Spring 2022

Students in Utah Valley University's Spanish-English interpreting and translation program worked collaboratively with city employees to localize Orem City's most trafficked webpages into Spanish. They worked together to ensure stylistic consistency and linguistic quality, and they also rigorously tested links and user experience. The link above points to a recognition page with the students names and a picture, and the landing page for the Spanish language webpages they localized can be found orem.org/espanol/.

Fall 2021

Students in Utah Valley University's Spanish-English interpreting and translation program worked collaboratively on a shared document in order to craft a quality translation (English into Spanish) of a patient information sheet on anemia. They exhibited effective communication as they actively identified problem areas and helped each other revise the translation. The link above points to their translation, and the source text can be found at this link. Big thanks to Scarleth Lozada, Sarah Bush, Tori Hooper, Raquel Sheffield, Kaylie Walker, Karen MarĂn, Heliana Moreno, Brittany Bunker, Briana O'Neal, and Alexis Sanders.

Spring 2021

Kent State students completed this demo as their first experience of localizing and deploying a multilingual website. Rather than focusing on the linguistic aspects of translation, the students worked on coding issues and the technical aspects of structuring a website (albeit a silly one) to make it available to users in multiple languages and locales. A big thanks to: Will Smith, Kierra Deist, Danayra Rivera, Tobi Stouffer, Gabby Bennett, Mikaela Peoples, Ella Wold, Alex Rudzinski, Robert McBride.

Instead of a classroom simulated project or assignment, Kent State students worked as teams to localize a website for a real-world client: the Icy Waves Surf Shop in Yakutat, Alaska. They navigated authentic problems, time pressure, and the constraints of a website builder platform (while these make sites "easy" to build, they can make them challenging to localize and customize) to deliver a seamless multilingual experience for the website in Spanish, German, French, and Japanese. Special thanks to Will Smith, Kierra Deist, Danayra Rivera, Tobi Stouffer, Gabby Bennett, Mikaela Peoples, Ella Wold, and Robert McBride.
